Anesthesia and Surgical Procedures
We understand that anesthesia can be an overwhelming and scary thought for pet owners. Yet, almost every animal will go through at least one anesthetic procedure during their lifetime, if not several. For this reason, the doctors and staff and CG&S want owners to understand the risks with anesthesia, as well as what we do to improve the safety of your pet.
Our schedule allows for anesthetic procedures such as routine spays and neuters, dental cleanings, mass removals, orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries Monday through Friday. We take the utmost care with these anesthetic procedures, including pre-anesthetic blood screenings, IV fluid therapy, close anesthetic monitoring by educated and certified veterinary technicians, and various monitoring equipment to monitor EKG, respiration, heart rate, and more. We understand each pet is different and needs the individual attention they deserve.
Soft Tissue Surgery
In our continuing efforts to offer the highest quality veterinary medicine, we are pleased to provide a wide range of surgical services for our patients. From routine surgical procedures, such as spaying and neutering, to more complex surgeries, we are here to help with your pet’s surgical needs, including mass removals, entropion eye surgery, abdominal foreign body surgery, and more.
Our focus is on patient safety, pain management, and employing the most current surgical practices. Our staff of compassionate, caring CVTs will monitor your pet before, during, and after surgery and will take exceptional care to ensure a safe and complete recovery for your pet. We will also address any questions or concerns you may have about surgery, including concerns about anesthesia, pain management, or postoperative care.
Our hospital also offers a surgical laser approach. Instead of using a traditional scalpel blade, your pet’s surgeon can use the surgical laser, which seals blood vessels and nerve endings as it goes, decreasing bleeding and inflammation. This technique is offered for all surgeries, unless otherwise specified by your veterinarian. Please note, all feline declaws are performed using surgical laser. This greatly reduces post-operative complications and helps your kitty to heal faster than declaws done using other methods.
When your pet is ready to go home, we will review your postoperative care and medication instructions. If any questions arise after your pet returns home or at any other time during the postoperative period, please do not hesitate to call us. We welcome your questions and will do all we can to help your pet recover fully.
Orthopedic Surgery
In addition to our soft tissue surgery, the doctors at CG&S also offer some orthopedic options for our patients. Orthopedic surgery involves the musculoskeletal system of the body, including bones, tendons, and ligaments. Some of the orthopedic surgeries Dr. Meyer performs include cruciate repair surgeries (ACL), femoral head osteotomy surgery (FHO), and certain fracture repairs. Please call our office with any inquiries about your pet’s orthopedic needs.
